REVIEW OF DEAD STARS

   The story of dead star was written by Paz Marquez Benitez. The story revolves around Alfredo Salazar, Julia Salas and Esperanza. Esperanza was the first woman that Alfredo fall in love to. Alfredo is a man that believes in true loves and hopes. They are engage for four years.

                When Alfredo go to judge Del Valle’s house. He met Julia Salas, he eventually got attracted to her. That the feeling of intensity of his passion to Esperanza has slowly faded. He got much attracted to Julia Salas when he starts engaging in profound chats to her. That hook Alfredo with the wit and passion of Julia Salas. He even didn’t tell the truth of his engagement to Julia Salas.

                After the Lady of Sorrows Alfredo go to Julia. But Julia Salas learned all about the truth about Alfredo. Julia even wishes him the best on marriage of Esperanza. That left Alfredo double blow on the event that happened between them. That left him to marry Esperanza

 Then after eight years they accidentally meet again. When Alfredo work of duty is near Julia’s town house. Julia still single. When Alfredo saw Julia he surprises that he is no longer attracted to her. That Alfredo realize that it was like dead star. That the love for Julia is nonexistence.

For me, that forbidden love is not always are worth fighting for. Because sometimes that decision that you will make will make you happy and contented in life. That we should be happy in our loves one and not the one that we are attracted to. We should know how to balance and make a best decision in love or rather in our everyday life. That this literary pieces has deeper meaning tha we should decipher in order to get the real meaning of this pieces.

REVIEW OF FRAY BOTOD

         

The story of Fray Botod is written by Graciano Lopez Jaena when he was 18 years old. It was written during 1874. The story is all about Spanish priest which Graciano Lopez Jaena portrays as a bloated, hypocritical Priest. That reflects that time of an abuses of catholic churches during Spanish period.

           Fray botod introduces the stereotypical Spanish friar who uses religion as a tool for oppressing others in order to satisfy his appetite for food, money and women. He also have an immoral relationships with young girls called canding-canding. He also threatening and punishing some students from the University of Manila. That neglecting his duties as a parish priest in favor of gambling, conducting his business unfairly, and barbarously punishing an Indio laborer who failed to work at his estate for three days.

         In this work, he caricatured the typical friar of the day as abusive, cruel, lazy, indifferent, greedy and lustful. He particularly abhorred the abuses and greediness of the friars that his first written work was against this group of people. That he was taking advantage of his position to fulfill all his darkness mind.

                The story was symbolic because Graciano Lopez Jaena give an inspiration to propaganda movement that brings him to exile to his home country. After reading the story it made me realize how abusive, cruel or demon Spaniards that time. I am very thankful that I  born in this period which doesn’t have a war that hold me to be happy. Also, I am proud of being a Filipinos because we know how to fight even in any kind of tool that we use. That we have a bravoes mind and strong will power to overcome all the situations that we will face on.
